What Happens After I Apply?

I’ve just submitted my application using your applicant portal. What happens now?

Congratulations on completing this crucial first-step in obtaining housing assistance! Please know that what you have completed is known as a pre-application. The next step is for the LHA Occupancy department to contact you to set up an appointment where you will fill out the complete application and verify your eligibility. This initial contact may take anywhere from 30 to 45 days after submitting your pre-app. You may be contacted by phone, text, or email, so please be on the lookout. A failure to respond to this communication may result in being removed from the waiting list.

The appointment will take place at the offices of the LHA and would require that you bring your documents to verify your eligibility and to complete the actual application. These documents include (but are not limited to):

  1. a valid ID or driver’s license for the Head of Household
  2. any documents that show income (check stubs, bank statements, notarized letter, benefits award letter, etc) for every member of the household
  3. a birth certificate for every member of your household
  4. Social Security cards (if possible) for members of your household who have one

In the meantime, you can check on your status by logging back into the website where you submitted your application. In the event that you have any questions or need any more information, you can call (956) 764-9396 or you can send an email to .
